Becoming a Microsoft School. Our Journey Starts Here…

Last week Corby Primary Academy became a Microsoft School. Other than the obligatory tweet that was sent out, this was very much an understated event.

The reason…?

Although we are very proud to call ourselves a Microsoft School, this really marks the start, not the end, of our journey towards developing our use of technologies to further enhance the teaching and learning within our classrooms, for all our pupils.

Without doubt this is going to make the following twelve months at Corby Primary an even more amazing place to learn and work for our pupils and staff.

As well as updating our current IT provision and working alongside Microsoft to enable our pupils to take advantage of the feature-rich capabilities that Windows 10 and Office 365 has to offer, our primary focus will be on examining how we are preparing our young people for life outside of school; unpicking the the need to develop the key 21st century skills of; collaboration, knowledge construction, self-regulation, problem-solving and innovation, information and communications technology (ICT) for learning, and skilled communication.

This 21st Century Learning Design (21CLD)  approach will underpin our work over the next year.

Looking forward:

  • Introducing everyone to OneDrive for Business to store, sync, and share work files …
  • Giving staff and pupils a taste of how OneNote can be used to provide collaborative learning opportunities…
  • Using tools like Sway to develop visual literacy learning…
  • Using Skype in the Classroom to embark on virtual field trips around the world…

…just a taste of some of the great things to come!

We will also be putting a program of support and training together to allow both our staff and pupils to become proficient in embedding the use of these new technologies in their teaching and learning.

For staff this will be primarily through a mix of face-to-face and online CPD, driven through the Microsoft Educator Community, which hosts a wealth of expertise and resources as well as the ability to connect with fellow educators around the globe to share experiences.

So, we may be just starting our journey, but like other Microsoft Schools focused on leading and learning, this exciting new direction at Corby Primary Academy will ensure both continue to flourish, with adults focusing on learning as much as pupils will do on leading.

Let’s get cracking…!!
